The Words You Leave Behind

We can't take anything with us, but we can leave something behind: words outlive us. ~ C. R. Murugiah
The Words You Leave Behind
“Well done, good and faithful servant.”
It’s what we want to hear. We’re promised such a warm welcome from a proud Father is possible, and that assurance from a friend who never lies. Walking with this friend, we come to know and believe many of his promises. Of a permanent home in a glorious kingdom. Of a crown of honor, to lay at his feet. Of a family known for its faith instead of its failings. Of a life transformed by unconditional love.
It’s those steps between then and now that are an unfolding mystery for each of us.
Of course, it’s also so much easier to see what’s behind us than what’s before. We can see the people who have helped. We can see foundations laid, trees planted, and even empires built. Behind these, though, we can see hints of a bigger pattern—that great tapestry of faith.
And it’s that echo of glory that offers the brightest hope.
You’ve built your life on grace. Solid principles, best practices, people and plans, and often a humbling dose of forgiveness. You can roll it up, as best any of us can, and present it to that beloved father. But what if you could offer him more? What if, like the legacy of family, you could gift him with dividends?
Project yourself into the future for a moment, a future when you are no longer here on earth but your children, their children, and their children's children are. They're facing the same struggles you did, new challenges for their generation. Same old struggles just with another face. You figured it out, maybe the hard way, so will they. But what if you could make it easier for them? What if you could guide them without being beside them? What if they could draw inspiration, hope, and encouragement even though you're not there.
There's that secret for you again: your words live on.
It sounds simple, almost too simple.
How many books have you read from authors who have passed on?
They still speak to us even though they're gone.
You have a story worth telling. Worth hearing. Our mutual friend calls us to speak, after all. The story of your life can be left to interpretation. It can be retold by those who know you. Or you can have a hand in connecting the lessons, the joys and triumphs and heartbreak, all into part of that heavenly vine.
Be the branch that keeps on giving. Leave a legacy for your children's children. Create the wealth of knowledge that will remain. Picture it: your own book of wisdom, your collective lessons. Your experiences. Words that guide, words that teach, words that remain.
Learn to co-create with God and write your part of His story.
