Write Your Joy –
Write Your World™ 2024 Conference
Dear Writer,
Writing is a creative endeavour. There is joy in creativity, in creating. It seems like an obvious statement and maybe it is, but… how many times is it not joyful? What happens when you lose sight of the delight and fulfilment of creating? There’s another side of this: Writer’s Block.
Writer’s Block gets in the way. Being ‘in the zone’ where everything just flows, it all just clicks, and the words just fly onto the page—those moments are sheer joy.
Conversely, writer’s block is the opposite. Everything is stopped up, nothing flows, you’re in a rut, you’re stumped, nothing works and everything just feels like a fool’s errand. We’ve all been there. We all know what that’s like. There are tips, tricks, techniques—and I teach my own ways of utilising writer’s block to your advantage—to overcome this.
In the midst of this, it is important to hold onto those achievements, those touchstones, and celebrate the milestones, which is what our conference is about: Celebration.
We are celebrating the Joy of Writing, and we’re looking at four different areas:
Character
Worldbuilding
Plot
Vision
We’re also going to have prize giveaways; we’re going to have games; we’re going to have guest speakers; and, most important of all, we’re going to have fun!

Which team will win in the inaugural annual games?
The World
On the world of Nas’Azur™, twelves stars shine brightly in the pale blue sky. They are the twelve sisters, maidens who dance between the clouds, hiding beneath the drifting moons. The brightest of the sisters is Elátosia, herald of the dawn, veil of the dusk. She is so bright that she fills the day, blotting out her sisters, but she retires during the night.
At dawn and twilight, the skies are teal, with purple and emerald streaks, silvery clouds of grey and white, and skim the mountains.
Within the rugged hills and sheer valleys, the roaring falls and deep rivers, the grasslands and the forests stand staring at each other. Beneath the blue pines, the viridian grasses shrink back; under the grasses’ soil the tufty tree roots recoil.
As with the grasses and the trees, the elves of the Dunwood Forest and the humans of the Ironstone Hills and Valleys likewise stare at each other from across the rivers.
Every year they meet for the annual games, where they engage in frivolities, camaraderie, and an exchange of culture before returning to their own lands.
This year, they are joined by a new band of friends, visitors from beyond the mountains, even, it is whispered, from beyond the sea of clouds that blankets the land from the stars.
No one knows where these visitors truly come from, but all are welcome at the games, and this year will be a year to remember. It shall be marked within the chronicles of Nas’Azur and recited in the annals of history.
Explore the world of Nas’Azur™ by joining one of the three teams: Team Knight, Team Alien, Team Elf.
Collaborate on exercises, strategise together in The Game of Knights, Aliens, and Elves, and witness the lore of our exclusive Write Your World™ Annual Conference storytelling developed and designed by C. R. Murugiah.
You’re in for a treat!

Features
Break-out rooms—discuss strategies with your team!
Create a backstory for the character your team has chosen.
Choose your path! Will you forge an alliance, will you hoard everything in sight, will you trade, will you fortify, will you raid?
Once your character goes through the portal, your choices will determine their fate.
Limbod the peasant—dreams of exploring and becoming a trader. He is hard-working, full of vigour, and refuses to touch alcohol. He is very superstitious.
Sir Parvis the lancer—fearless, good with horses, and knows how to ride. His great love is architecture, and his second is Lady Piety, whom he adores. His poetry is excellent, but he can be a bit impulsive.
Lady Evy—as beautiful as she is cunning, which is to say, not at all. She always believes her schemes will succeed, but they rarely do. Her goal is to obtain wealth in order to attract the best-looking suitor and make her sister, Lady Piety, jealous. She’s also seventeen.
Clakis the rope weaver—whether you need a rope, a length of linen, or a hammock, Clakis is your elf. She is exceptionally good at weaving. She is less good at baking and the communal kitchens have barred her.
Flara the Archer—she can hit an apple off the top of that squire’s head all the way over the river in the human lands from her perch up a tree and do so with a brilliant smile. A heartbreaker and unaware of it, she is athletic, lithe, and has little sense of smell, so she wears horribly overbearing perfumes.
Hesia ‘the’ elf maiden—wants to win a beauty pageant so badly that she dances all day, sings all night, and sleeps during the morning. She refuses her mail but longs to learn magic.
